Composition History

This jewel of a christian contemporary song was written and composed by Ms. Kathy Brigman Haupt in the early 1980's for her grandmother's memorial service. (She very slightly revised it in 1989 when she recorded it with David on her way to sing it at David's mother's memorial, Kathy's great aunt. The version of words and melody used on this recording are from her 1989 slight revision.)

This simple, acoustic, folk influenced song fits within the subgenres of either Christian Adult Contemporary, or Christian Soft Adult Contemporary. Until release of this recording by TortoiseClimbing Audio™, it has only been heard by a few on the occassions Kathy agreed to perform it for family memorials.

Happily, Kathy granted TortoiseClimbing Audio™ permission for David to create an arrangement of her song and record it for public release. The new arrangement is included on Hymns and Songs of My Mother because David's mother wanted it included among the favorites selected for that album.

Because this is the only Christian Soft Adult Contemporary Music song on that album, we are also offering it separately as a double version, i.e., 2 different arrangements:

  1. Close to original solo version, recorded by Kathy and David in 1989, and
  2. The version on the album.

Very special thanks to Ms. Kathy Brigman Haupt for granting permission to TortoiseClimbing Audio™ to create an arrangement and recording for public release of this wonderfully expressive song.

  1. I wonder what it looks like on the other side of the sky
I wonder what it feels like to let your spirit fly
I wonder how it will be to hear Jesus say
    Welcome home, welcome home.

  2. Welcome home. I have waited such a long, long time,
To hold you in my arms, and let you see my glory.
Your job on earth is through. I’m so very proud of you.
So welcome home my servant, welcome home.

  3. Now she lives in heaven. My heart is filled with pain
But the loss I feel is only heaven’s gain
I’m sure if she could speak to me, from heaven she would say,
Just live for Jesus, each and every day.

  4. And you’ll hear him say,

Welcome home. I have waited such a long, long time,
To hold you in my arms, and let you see my glory.
Your job on earth is through. I’m so very proud of you.
So welcome home my servant, welcome home.
